As the COVID-19 pandemic keeps going. Many elderly people are worried about Grocery and their daily needs. This covid 19 pandemic has changed our daily routine. Elderly people are very much scared to get out of the house to go buy their stuff. Even after following all the precautions elderly people are still at the greatest risk of getting infected by this virus.
So, let's have a look at a few steps that would let you know about how elderly people can shop according to their needs:
Elderly people can make a list of their requirements which are necessary for a week so that they do not need to come out of the house unnecessarily. Avoid using mobile phones while in the store this not only stops infecting your phone but also keeps the device away from your face and hands meanwhile, which means bringing a shopping list written in a paper is better than using a mobile phone so that you can throw that list later.
Practising social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people ) would be better. As Dr Martin said the serious risk while grocery shopping in the store is with people who may have COVID 19, not the items on the shelves. While it's likely to get COVID 19 from an infected person(who might not know that they are infected). while they are sneezing or coughing that is why maintaining social distancing is more important. As we all know that stores are marking their floors and stairs with the footprint to maintain distance. Stores ensure and remind the customer to stand two steps away from a person. Wear a glove while shopping to avoid touch.
Make sure to wear a mask. Wearing a face mask will help you to stop getting infected and when someone starts sneezing, talking, coughing, they may let out the germs which may cause this infection. We may get infected by the person who is already infected but doesn't know that they are infected.
Ensure that before you use reusable bags it should be washed and clean. Reusable bags were the best choice before this covid 19 pandemic and still, it is the best choice during the COVID 19 pandemic. Using the freshly washed reusable bag is better than using a plastic bag which may contain viruses in it. So make sure you carry a reusable bag while shopping.
Keep a sanitizer with you. Sanitizing your hands before touching the trolley/cart and the basket is necessary. Many people would have touched the trolley and basket so make sure you sanitize your hands and the basket before using it. It is better to use sanitary wipes to clean the basket. As we all know many stores are providing sanitizers and hygiene wipes for the customers but indeed feel free to bring your hand sanitizer and wipe. It has low chances of getting infected by covid 19.
It's okay to ask for help if you need but you need to avoid contact with other people. Many stores are providing special hours for elderly people by offering pick up drop services and home delivery services.
Use online payments so that you avoid touching card swiping machines or you can pay cash once you are done with the payment and make sure you sanitize your hand after getting out of the store. Once you leave the shop remove the gloves if you are wearing otherwise clean your hands with sanitizer.
Make sure you wash the fruits and veggies immediately after getting home. Spray sanitizer in the packet items/packed food. Before opening the soft drinks clean the lids properly.
For your safety, you need to take all the precautions from time to time. We have to accept this new normal. It would be better if you take all the precautions rightly.
