With all the dry run of vaccines and stuff going on, we are hopefully nearing the end of the covid-19 pandemic. Every single one of us has been through a lot during this year, which has never happened to humanity in a few decades now. We have mourned for a lot of the victims now and there’s time for us to care for the survivors. But it is time for us to think about and thank the heroes of this pandemic, our Doctors and Nurses who have sacrificed and risked their lives in exchange for the lives of lots of people.
Here are some of the known heroes;
Dr. Li Wenliang, MD, an ophthalmologist at Wuhan Central Hospital. He is the one who raised awareness of fast-spreading SARS infections in Wuhan. He contracted coronavirus unwittingly while treating an infected patient and passed away on 7 February 2020.
Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He tried and helped the US to go through this pandemic smoothly with his experience and intelligence.
Dr. Maurizio Cecconi, head of Anesthesia and Intensive care department of Humanitas Research Hospital, Italy. He shared his knowledge and helped the people to prepare themselves for this pandemic.
Not all the doctors treating the covid patients are cheerful and happy about their work, but still, they are risking their life for the sake of others and that really takes a lot of courage to do that. Treating covid-19 patients requires lots of preparations like training, wearing the correct PPE, availability of modern ICU and dedication of doctors and nurses. And as a fact, it is really tough to have a continuous large scale supply of PPE and life-saving equipment like ventilators, etc. Even in some developed countries, shortages of supplies couldn’t be helped and these health care professionals were left only with surgical masks and plastic aprons for protection. In many places, despite high priority and dedicated funding, many health-care professionals were left to buy protective gear with their own money, which made it really tough for them.
In India, more than 90,000 health-care professionals were diagnosed with covid-19 and nearly 1000 of them lost their lives. All the doctors and nurses were made to go through a lot this year like they have to be cautious 24/7, they cannot eat or drink once they wear their PPE gear, they had to stay away from their family and loved ones and the worst of all is that they had to work knowing that they can be infected any second during their line of work. Every one of us should put ourselves in the shoes of those doctors. Imagine the situation where the doctor goes home, does not talk to his wife or children, avoids touching any objects and goes to disinfect himself with rigorous soap, and washes himself and he still has to isolate himself to avoid the worst-case scenario of being already infected and spreading them to his family. The anxiety that these people carry around through their entire day is more than enough to put a human in a never-ending trauma.
Do you think that these health-care professionals will risk their lives in a situation where there is a shortage of protective gear and all other supplies? There is no way anyone would do that and in India, many of the doctors and nurses have already quit their profession as health-care professionals which is extremely sad and there is no way anyone can blame them for that. There are still a majority of doctors and nurses who are bearing these undesirable conditions and are still fighting on the frontlines for the sake of protecting everyone else. Many of us are still saying that “It is their job and they have to do it”, but this kind of bravery is not to be taken for granted. They should be treated with all the respect that they deserve. Nowadays people have started to call them superheroes and for me, it is still not enough. There is a habit in India where many of us compare Doctors with God as they are the physical form of saving lives, and recent times gives us more reason to prove the fact.
So let us all never forget to treat them with all due respect and let us make sure to appreciate their work every time we meet them, this will make them happy and will encourage them to do more. And you, did you like our content? Make sure to leave a feedback in the comments below, Thank you.
